What do you enjoy about your job?
The ability to make a difference in the life of someone else in the intimacy of their own home while preventing hospital admission is empowering. I love working with an interdisciplinary team of health care professionals. I enjoy the flexibility that my role offers and the fast-pacedness and complexity of the job. Because of the long hours that this service provides you have to have energy and adaptability to work between different settings to include A and E and the community. I love working in the community setting because it allows me the opportunity to not only see how the patient adapts in their own living environment, but it also challenges me to be effective at developing an individualized plan of care that allows for the patient to receive optimal care at home that is goal- focused and patient-centered.
Personal achievements within your role?
The ability to transition into a new nation and work under a different healthcare system has been challenging yet achievable. I am very passionate about the use of electrical stimulation modalities in my treatment approach. My education, work experience and training that I have received back in the United States on the use of electrical modalities has prepared me to make a valuable contribution towards the delivery of care here in the United Kingdom. Because of the continuous training that I seek out on new clinical trends in application of electrical modalities, I am able to empower my patients to be proactive in their own care and I do that by recommending purchasing of electrical modality devices that are proven to decrease pain, increase strength and improve overall functional outcomes.
How do you unwind from work?
I unwind by dancing!! I love to dance and I have always been passionate about Salsa, modern, ballet, and praise dancing. I also unwind by working out at the gym, running, travelling and reading inspirational faith-based books.
