The Red Arrows officially opened the Bupa Great North Run 2011 last Sunday 18th September, which saw around 54,000 people take to the streets of Newcastle for this year’s - 31st Great North Run – raising millions of pounds for charities.
Officially sponsored by Bupa, the 13.1 mile run from Newcastle to South Sheilds, had the largest number of participants to date. Tens of thousands of spectators also came out to support the event, cheering on runners, friends and family.
Onlookers were also treated to an exhilarating flight display over the Tyne Bridge by the Red Arrows, paying tribute to colleague Flt Lt Jon Egging who died tragically in August.
JustPhysio were also eager to help out, supplying 25 volunteer masseurs to the ‘Physio and Massage Team’ who were treating runners within the finishing tents. Under the direction of 8 Senior Physiotherapists from Bupa, the team helped energise athletes and spur on runners by performing treatments every 5 minutes – that’s over 400 runners per hour!
On behalf of all at JustPhysio, we would like to say a big thank you to our volunteers and congratulations to all those who took part in the run!
