Each month JustPhysio would like to recognise one of our locums for their personal achievement and commitment to the Physiotherapy service.
Name: Catherine Kirk
Profession: Physiotherapy
Where are you from?
A lovely, friendly little town called Estcourt in Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa
Current Locum position?
Band 5 Physiotherapist - Fracture Neck of Femur Team
What do you like about your job?
The people! I have great patients- some are lovable but frustrating at times- but mostly ones who are super keen to get going and back to their best. And in this job I get to see them go all the way through- from a hospital patient to a man taking his dog for a walk! So really comprehensive rehab. I also love the team I am working with - they are so encouraging and supportive. And I love going out into the community, visiting people at home. I am also learning whole lot- procedures, protocols and processes in the NHS, and rehab tips, team work. Just fantastic!
Personal achievements within your role?
I was pretty quick to work out how to use the somewhat complicated computer and record keeping systems. I have learnt so much already, but haven’t had much time to use it all- so still working on the achievements. I have helped some very sweet patients to get home ASAP to their families and lives- which has made them very happy, and me happy to. And I can use a standing hoist in functional rehab now- feeling much more confident with the use of equipment.
How do you unwind from work?
I run a bit- well jog really! I enjoy reading- so the best thing is to come home to flop on my bed, with a big mug of tea and a packet of biscuits.... and then to go for a run. I also love cooking and baking- so will lose myself in the kitchen.
