Locum in the Spotlight - June Edition

Tuesday 7th June 2011

Each month JustPhysio would like to recognise one of our locums for their personal achievement and commitment to the Physiotherapy service.

Name: Drew Aras

Profession: Physiotherapist

Where are you from? Ocean Grove, (Victoria) Australia.

Current Locum position? Band 6 Physiotherapist, Community Rehab Service.

What do you like about your job?
I’m lucky enough to work in a fun and experienced multidisciplinary team. They have not only taught me heaps professionally but also manage to keep me entertained!

I really enjoy being in the community as I find that the work we do is immediately relevant to our clients and it’s easier to help them achieve their own functional goals. A large percentage of our clients are at risk of falling and I enjoy working with them as we can often make significant improvements in their lives and keep them out of hospital.

There’s also the fact that I get to spend a bit of time outdoors (cycling or walking to clients houses) in our ‘consistently sunny weather.’

Personal achievements within your role?
As the only male staff member in the rehab team, my biggest achievement has been withstanding the recurring lunchtime conversations about weddings. However, with practice from previous positions I now have not only built up a considerable tolerance but also have the art of ‘subject changing’ down to a tee!

How do you unwind from work?
I would say exercise but I’d be lying. A more honest answer would involve Guinness.
