Locum of the Month

Wednesday 29th February 2012

Each month JustPhysio would like to recognise one of our locums for their personal achievement and commitment to the Physiotherapy Service!

Name: Maria Stephens

Profession: Physiotherapist

Where are you from? Ballarat, Australia

Current Locum position? Senior Musculoskeletal Outpatient Physiotherapist

What do you enjoy about your job?
I enjoy working closely with patients and having the ability to make a real difference to someone’s quality of life through physiotherapy.

I enjoy having the opportunity to meet, learn and take inspiration from so many new people with such diverse backgrounds – patients and colleagues alike. During my travels and locum work, I have been so privileged to have met and worked with some amazing colleagues who have now become lifelong friends.

I love being able to take advantage of our highly adaptable skills and being able to essentially travel the world with them!

Personal achievements within your role?
The personal satisfaction and sense of reward that comes with being able to make a real difference to an individual’s quality of life through physiotherapy.

The challenge of transitioning into a new nation and working under a completely new healthcare system. Whilst overseas, I have been extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to work in a range of different healthcare settings within the Military and NHS, which have been both challenging and highly rewarding experiences.

How do you unwind from work?
I love travelling and making the most of every opportunity to explore new places and culture overseas.
I also enjoy a competitive game of sport or exercise session, listening and having a good sing and dance along to music, dining out and catching up with friends.

If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 items would you take?
1.) My music collection!
2.) My piano
3.) A huge album of my dearest friends and family
