What do you enjoy about your job?
Being part of a close and friendly team is one aspect I really enjoy. It is very satisfying when you can pull together all your different skills mix and use it to really help someone accomplish their full potential. I also enjoy being out an about in different environments which you certainly get in the community where I am currently based. You never know what you’re going to walk into which is great for making one very adaptable and inventive when dreaming up exercises and ways to get patients up and going again! Above anything else, it is always the patients which keep me going. Being able to help someone achieve something that they have not been able to do for a long time, if ever, I view as a real privilege.
Personal achievements within your role?
Being able to help a patient walk to the end of their garden for the first time was very satisfying as they had been housebound for months following an illness. Most of my patients have goals that would seem very small to a normal, healthy person but are huge achievements for them and I always feel very proud of them when they get there, it definitely provides one with a good perspective on life!
How do you unwind from work?
I enjoy running, although the recent weather has provided me with very little motivation! I also enjoy art and find putting paint brush to canvas a really great way to relax and go into my own little world!
If you were stranded on a desert island what 3 items would you take?
1.) A ball with a smiley face on it (so I have someone to chat to).
2.) A nice soft pillow
3.) A rubber dinghy
