Each month JustPhysio would like to recognise one of our locums for their personal achievement and commitment to the Physiotherapy Service!
Name:
Stuart
Profession:
Physiotherapist
Where are you from?
Launceston, Tasmania, Australia
Current Locum position?
Band 6 Locum MSK Physiotherapist
Personal achievements within the role?
I have made a smooth transition from the Australian public health system to the NHS, while managing a busy caseload comprising a wide variety of MSK conditions and presentations. During my time in this role so far I have expanded my experience in MSK and had the opportunity to treat and manage a variety of different chronic clinical presentations than I had previously experienced.
What do you enjoy about being a locum?
I enjoy the flexibility of being able to travel through Europe whilst working and expanding my physio experience in the UK. Combined with the ability to adjust, change and move between roles and different physiotherapy disciplines.
Most memorable moment within your career?
Any stage when you get to work with motivated individuals usually leads memorable and satisfying results. One particularly memorable moment was being on call one evening as a new graduate when there was a quadriplegic with pneumonia in ICU at my hospital. A colleague and I were required to provide treatment and help perform assisted coughs for airway clearance roughly every two hours over night to help prevent re-intubation. We were successful in preventing re-intubation and he was eventually transferred to the ward over the coming days.
