London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony
The most talked about event of 2012 has finally arrived! And is due to kick off in spectacular fashion this evening as we welcome the Opening Ceremony of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games!
The last time Britain hosted the world's largest sporting event was back in 1948, which stands in striking contrast to this year’s multi-billion pound extravaganza. Back then Team GB took home 3 Gold Medals, 14 Silver and 6 Bronze, so lets hope Team GB can once again do us proud!
The build up to these two short weeks has been a long time coming, many of us have watched the Olympic Torch on its 8000 mile relay around the UK over the past 10 weeks, with tens of thousands lining the streets of London to see its final victory laps and to cheer it on its way to the opening ceremony held tonight in London’s Hyde park.
Mystery still surrounds the £27m festival style ceremony and details of who will be given the honour of lighting the Olympic flame still remain a highly guarded secret, book keepers latest bets are on Her Majesty The Queen!
Even though the early rounds of some competitions have already begun, tonight's show will formally open the Games, giving athletes from around the globe a chance to announce and honour their nation's arrival at London 2012.
We would like to wish Team GB the best of luck and are looking forward to watching the games unfold next week!
