Each month JustPhysio would like to recognise one of our locums for their personal achievement and commitment to the Physiotherapy service.
Name: Lisa Wilson
Profession: Physiotherapist
Where are you from?
Auckland, New Zealand (lived in Melbourne, Australia for 2 ½ years before moving to London)
Current Locum position?
Senior Respiratory Physiotherapist Band 6 (covering Band 7 position)
What do you like about your job?
I really enjoy working with a great specialist Respiratory Multidisciplinary team. Everyone works really hard with the same objective (to improve service provision to patients with long term respiratory disease). Leading a small rehab team (which is due to expand) I enjoy that I have every opportunity to develop leading Physiotherapy services to these patients, and have a major role in the development of junior staff as well as making positive impact on a challenging patient group.
I have ended up working more than travelling as the end date for this role has changed for the better but everything I am doing will benefit my career in the long run which makes up for it (plus the money is a bonus). After 6 months work I have been on my first holiday (2 weeks in Stockholm, Copenhagen , Prague and Berlin) and I have seen enough snow to last a lifetime so the next one will be to somewhere with lots of sun!
Personal achievements within your role?
I have been involved with the development of a Pulmonary Rehab service which runs over two venues (when I started there were 150 patients waiting to be seen-found this out first day on the job!) ; a home based Pulmonary Rehab service; setting up sputum clearance clinics (including home review); leading a rehab team and now planning to assist with the development of an early supported discharge service.
How do you unwind from work?
I have joined a gym (far too cold for exercising outside which I miss!). Pilates and running are my favourite stress busters especially after a busy tube ride! I also enjoy catching up with new friends that I have made over the past 6 months and luckily for me a great bunch of friends from NZ (school and uni) and Australia are also in London. There is never a shortage of things to do!
